Isolation and typing of salmonella in broiler farms at Adapazarı area

Salmonella is leading of foodborne pathogens in all around the world. Salmonellosis is an important case that should be under controlled for both to produce safe food and prevent economic losses in poultry sector. Early diagnosis has also gained importance to achieve to a successful control program. Salmonella in many clinical samples and food materials can not be identified due to lack of their numbers in ambient, density of competitor micro flora and damaged Salmonella in storage phase of foods. While to obtain result with standard culture method changes among 5-11 days, ribotyping method that is PCR-based diagnostic method presents a great advantage due to have high specify, speed and sensitive. In this study, among 2013-2014 years, density and characterization of Salmonella in Adapazarı Region having broiler-type chicken company was performed. Salmonella isolation was performed from drag-swab samples obtained from coops of 46 companies in mentioned region and their identifications were carried with ribotyping method. 65 Salmonella samples including two different drag-swab samples were investigated and it was determined that there is Salmonella in 29,23% of coops. It was observed that Salmonella ser. Enteritidis have maximum rate with 52,6% among positive samples. In addition to, the six different serotypes were also determined.
