The knowledge and thoughts about the organ and ti̇ssue donati̇on and transplantati̇on of Adnan Menderes Uni̇versi̇ty hospi̇tal personnel

Aim: Determining the knowledge and thoughts about the organ and tissue donation and transplantation of Adnan Menderes University Hospital personnel, making required disclosures to these people who will give community education about their awareness of organ donation and keeping the issue on the agenda. Material and methods: The study was conducted between 30 June 2014 – 1 March 2014 at the Adnan Menderes University Research and Training Hospital. A total of 415 working in the relevant date in the medical staff and 320 students were attended to the study. Data collection was created in line with the literature on containing 6 pieces of socio-demographic, 15 pieces of knowledge and 3 pieces attitude questions "Organ donation and transplantation knowledge level survey" is used. Findings: The average age of people who were included in the study were found to be 25.08 ± 6.82 SD. 32 (4.4%) of persons included in the study were housekeeping staff, 71 (9.7%) nurse, 320 (43.5%) have students, 256 (34.8%) of nurses and 56 (7.6%) were the assistant doctor. 10.3% of the study participants had an organ donation card. 44.4% of respondents in the study accept the presence of organ donation. 49.3 % of the participants stated that they would donate their organs in case of death of their relatives. 50.2% of the participants stated that they have sufficient information about organ donation. Attenders who have enough information about the topic and high levels of education are significantly more voluntery about the organ donation (p:0.00, p:0.006). Results: Health staff does'nt have a clear view and sufficient knowledge about organ donation. It revealed that educational, informative thought-provoking symposiums should be organized to provide comprehensive awareness of health workers had governmental organ / tissue donation and transplant related role model function. The desired goal in organ transplantation could be achieved by increasing the number .of organ donors and it will be provided only with a good organization and teamwork
