The process of building a nation-state in Africa: Zambia and Kenneth Kaunda

Geographic Discovery for Europe was not only a romantic adventure of reaching mystical worlds, but also a key to a materialist richness. Hundreds of years of war and heavy political crises have ensured that Europe will find ways to overcome these problems and solve it by discovering new worlds both in the far east and far west. Here, African colonialism emerged during the period when the West began such a search. The West, wandering around the Cape of Good Hope and seeking to reach the mysterious riches of the new world and faraway nature, saw the continent as a simple stop for logistics at the first stage of the imperialist adventure it embarked on. However, as time passes by, the Black Continent came out of being a simple stop for the West. With the Industrial Revolution, Africa for the West has become a natural exploitation area both in terms of natural and human resources. The West has begun to exploit its human and natural resources with great pitch into the riches of Africa. It first attacked cheap human power through slavery, then underground and above ground resources. In doing so, he carried the rivalry in itself to the end with all his ruthlessness. West established artificial borders and nations. Thus, Western made irrecoverable injuries in the whole nature of Africa. When the Second World War came to an end, the Continent was desperately waiting for its own liberators. As in other political geographies of the continent, Kenneth David Kaunda, a unique leader, has emerged to get rid of the underdevelopment of colonialism in Zambia and to take its place in the modern international world. This thesis is trying to examine the colonial periods of the African continent and the nation states that started to take shape, starting from the example of Zambia and Kenneth Kunda.
