An investigation on Cryptosporidium parvum among risk group in Afyonkarahisar region

XAN INVEST GAT ON ON CRYPTOSPOR D UM PARVUMAMONG R SK GROUP N AFYONKARAH SAR REG ONSUMMARYIn this study it is aimed to investigate Cryptosporidium parvum among risk group inAfyonkarahisar region.This study was performed in the Parasitology Laboratory of the Hospital ofAfyonkarahisar Kocatepe University, between 2006 and 2007 years. In the study,stool samples collectea from 250 patients that are gathered from 114 children whoare staying at the Afyonkarahisar Children-care Instution and from 135 patients whoare admitted to different clinics of our hospital with various symptoms wereexamined according to parasitic methodology. Formol-etil asetat sedimentationmethod is performed to stool samples for consentration. After that, for diagnosis onCryptosporidium oocysts, stool samples stained by Kinyoun acid-fast method andscreened under the light microscope. Cryptosporidium oocyst were observed in 10(%4) of examined stool samples.In conclution, it was found that C. parvum was an important agent in sympthomaticdiarrheal cases. Therefore the parasite must be investigated carefully in risk group.Acid-fast staining can be sufficient to determine the agent, however examinationsshould be done carefully.Key words : Cryptosporidium parvum, risk groupsNumber of pages : 55Director of Thesis: Doç.
