Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Aim:The SARS-CoV-2 virus, which was first detected in China towards the end of 2019, has caused the death of millions of people all over the world and the collapse of health systems in some countries for months. There are many parameters used in the diagnosis and prognosis of the disease. In this study, we aimed to evaluate patients with positive and negative COVID-19 PCR tests in terms of white blood cell and lower segments, which are indicators of immune response. Materials and Method:In this study, patients who applied to the Adult Emergency Service of Akdeniz University Hospital between April 1, 2020 and October 1, 2020, who were requested to have COVID-19 PCR test and hemogram, were examined retrospectively. Hospital information management system was used as data source. Findings:A total of 1001 patients were included in the study. COVID-19 PCR test was positive in 193 patients (19.2%). Of the 1001 patients included in our study, 482 (48.2%) were female and 519 (51.8%) were male. The mean age of the patients with negative PCR test was 37.39±14.5, and the mean age of those with positive PCR test was 43±15.3 (p<0.001). The mean neutrophil count for the patients with positive and negative test results was 3.37±1,4 thousand/mm3 (respectively) and 6.42±3.3thousand/mm3,mean lymphocyte count 1.54±0.82 thousand/mm3 and 2.19±1.3 thousand/mm3, mean monocyte count 0.63±0.24thousand/mm3 and 0.72±0.3thousand/mm3 mean eosinophil count 0.06±0.09thousand/mm3 and 0.16±0.16thousand/mm3was calculated as. Neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocytes and eosinophil counts were found to be statistically significantly lower in COVID 19 positive patients than in negative ones. Conclusion: When the leukocyte sub-segment parameters, which are among the laboratory tests used for COVID-19, were evaluated, it was determined that the neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte and eosinophil counts were lower in PCR-positive patients than in negative ones. Studies evaluating the effects of these parameters on the severity of the disease and mortality can provide more detailed information on their clinical use.
