Investigation of medical waste management in Aksaray province

With the rapid development of industrialization and technology, environmental problems also increase over time, and these problems pose a threat to life and environmental health. In addition, the impact of urbanization and migration environmental problems is increasing, and the increase in population, especially in places with high population, causes the services provided in the public sector to be more difficult. Rapid consumption of resources, unconsciousness in use and inadequate waste management are becoming a major problem. One of the problems in waste management is medical waste, which is classified as special waste. This study is a medical waste management study in Aksaray province. The amount and characterization of wastes produced in health institutions were investigated on the basis of units, the current situation was revealed and suggestions were made for the problems encountered. Medical wastes cause great risks for nature and people. In addition, in order to minimize the dangers for our health and to cause less loss in terms of both health institutions and economy, it is necessary to take some precautions about medical wastes, separate them at the source and send them to disposal in certain ways. The aim of this study is to minimize the threats of medical wastes affecting nature and people in Aksaray Province. The correct management and disposal of medical wastes is one of the important problems both in the world and in our country. For this reason, this thesis study is about determining the amount of medical waste generated in health care institutions, investigating the compliance of the studies related to the collection, transmission and disposal of these wastes with the legislation, and evaluation of the disposal methods that can be applied as an alternative.
