Abstract (EN)

Surrealism is an art movement in which traditionalism in art was replaced by modern understanding at the end of the 19th century, and surreal images gained importance among some artists of the 20th century. This movement forms the basis of modern art. Alberto Giacometti and Francis Bacon are among the artists who produce works to create surreal images in modern art. Alberto Giacometti and Francis Bacon limited their works around humans in line with their understanding of art. They transformed the human bodies in their works into deformed body images with their personal creativity, beyond traditional understanding. In addition to their personal experiences, the formation of these body images was also influenced by the devastation of the society they were in during the two great world wars that took place in their first half of the 20th century. Thus, with the images of the human body in his works. They aim to discover the essence of individuals personal existence with their fears, pains, loneliness, sexuality, fear of life and death. In addition to adopting the figurative approach and creating similar subjects in line with their own understanding of art, they also adopted the belief that the works of the old masters they experienced (such as Cimabue, Velâzquez, Rembrandt, Cêzanne, Vincent van Gogh and Tintoretto) were of fundamental importance for modern art. In this context, it is possible to talk about the artistic parallels between both Alberto Giacometti and Francis Bacon within modern art.
