Abstract (EN)

In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the relations between marriage compliance, attachment styles and temperament ? character features in alcohol addicts and their spouses by comparing this group to the controls. 49 alcohol addict men and 48 healthy men has been recruited with their spouses , their evaluation has been made by using TCI, adult attachment style scale and spouses marriage compliance scale. There was no significant difference when groups were compared for attachment styles. Alcohol addicts were found to have more trustfull attachment , which is different than the literature. It is thought that this is the result of disqualifying the alcohol addicts that are single and the that are living separately from their wives. In accordance with the literature, alcohol addicts and their wifes had a worse marriage compliance when compared to the controls. Again in accordance with the literature, for the whole groups, the subjects that had a trustfull attachment had a more congruent marriage compared to the subjects that had prudent and ambivalant attachment. According to the results of TCI, novelty search subscale was significantly higher in alcohol addicts, whereas reward addiction subscale was significantly higher in the wives of alcohol addicts. This result is important to understand the reasons why the marriade goes on, despite low marriage compliance and satisfaction. That the number of patients that took part in our study is few and that the scales has been filled by the participants , are among the major limitations of this study. It is the property of this study that the scales above has been used together and the relations between marriage compliance, attachment styles and temperament ? character features in alcohol addicts and their spouses has been evaluated. In order to be able to generalize this results, similar studies with larger sample sizes are needed.
