Abstract (EN)

Liberal International Order (LIO) remains embedded in the post-war US hegemonic order. This thesis delves into China's approach towards LIO from a theoretical and empirical perspective. A descriptive analysis is conducted utilizing secondary research. International relations theoretical understanding of socialization is considered. The evolution of the LIO, the domains of the LIO and its constitutive norms and principles are discussed. Socialization of China to the norms and institutions of the elements of the order is analyzed. The findings conclude that China pursues a diversified strategy to safeguard its national interests while striving to obtain a leadership position within the international order. Neither is China working to suppress the order nor is it staying as a passive subject to it. As an increasingly influential nation, China has displayed its willingness to challenge, mold and reform the aspects of the order which do not align with its values or threaten its national interests.
