Homelessness is a national problem for Türkiye as the other countries. Reasons of the homelessness differs for every nation. The death rates among homeless people is higher than the general population becomes more important to determine causes of preventable death and to inform the state and social institutions accordingly to take preventive cautions against preventable death causes. In this work, we reviewed 127 cases and autopsy report which belong to homeless who died in Ankara and recorded by Forensic Medicine Institution of Ankara. Data were evaluated retrospectively by gender, age, county in which the body was found, date of death, where death examination was held, decomposition status, body hygiene, whether autopsy is done, cause of death, whether there is a psychological history, finding of toxicological analyze. Objectives of this work to build public attention to this problem, contribute to the statistical data about homeless people of our country and to obtain data in order to take preventive cautions. We found that of total homeless death 91,33 % were men between age of 30-61 (70,07 %). Homeless bodies were most frequently found in Altındağ and Çankaya counties. The places they were found are mostly deserted building, construction site and shack like closed places. Death events most occurred in fall and winter seasons (62,99 %). General hygiene of the found bodies of the homeless people (67.1 %) were distorted and autopsy was held for 42,51 % of total. In our findings we noticed that death because of unnatural causes were higher (55,11 %). Among these unnatural death causes are traffic accidents (14,17 %) and alcoholic intoxication (7,87 %). Most frequent natural causes of death among homeless are acute myocardial infarctions (18,89 %) and multiorgan failure based on malnutrition (5,51 %).We believe that the collected data by the forensic evaluation of where the death takes place by crime scene investigators and forensic team and detailed deposition of witnesses and determine the cause of death by autopsy subsequent to the external forensic examination of the body in ?Homeless? death events might be crucial data in taking preventive cautions in order to enhance these homeless? life expectancy.
