Examination of illumination characteristics of the Holy Quran with inventory number 88.21.72 in Antalya Museum

This thesis aims to illustrate the illumination features that appeared in the Quran with the number 88.21.72 that has been exhibited in the Antalya Museum. The illuminated Front Page (Serlevha), Bookback Page (Zahriye), Surah Titles (Sürebaşları), Roses (Güller), Verse Periods (Duraklar), and Last Page (Hatime Sayfası) of the Quran with the number 88.21.72 have been analyzed in consideration of the digital data. The illumination features on the illuminated pages of the Quran of the 16th century have been examined in terms of technical, form, composition, color, and motive and besides, it has been documented by the work of art review forms. Thence after, the obtained data have been interpreted in the light of their statistical analysis. Besides the classical illumination techniques such as zer-ender-zer, double tahrir (çift tahrir), the hatayi groups motifs, cloud and rumi motifs were applied, as well. Through an intense analysis, it has been determined that the design was highlighted by the naïve and small-scale motifs with the symmetrical pattern while gold and lapis lazuli were used as the base colors. Lastly, three authentic works of art that reflect the art concept of the 16th century were designed and presented
