Abstract (EN)
Lung cancer is the most common cancer type in the world, and it is the second leading cause of death in the world after cardiovascular diseases. The average 5-year survival rate of lung cancer, which is divided into two subtypes as small cell and non-small cell, is only 19 per cent. Although there are different treatment methods such as surgical intervention, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, there is no effective method or drug that treats lung cancer, especially small cell type. In this study, the anticancer effect of sodium pentaborate pentahydrate, sodium perborate tetrahydrate, and boric acid against lung cancer have been studied and the effects of these substances on cancer cells metastasis, cell proliferation, cell migration, cell cycle, and cell viability have been demonstrated in detail at the molecular level. Although in vivo toxicology and efficacy experiments of sodium pentaborate pentahydrate and sodium perborate tetrahydrate are continuing, it has been observed that these substances show strong and selective anticancer effects against lung cancer via anti-proliferative, anti-migration, and cell cycle arrest effects in in vitro experiments. This study is the first study in the literature showing the anticancer effect of sodium pentaborate pentahydrate and sodium perborate tetrahydrate on lung cancer.
