Abstract (EN)

Bedtime procrastination is a novel field of research compared to the other procrastination types and has often been associated with inadequate sleep and well-being. The present study examined a serial mediation model and hypothesized that smartphone addiction and bedtime procrastination would serially mediate the relationship between mindfulness and sleep quality. Participants were recruited from online platforms and 409 participants filled the survey. The inclusion criteria were being 18 years old and over. Three-hundred-eighty-five of the participants' data were included for the analyses since 24 participants did not follow the instructions. The data collection instruments that were presented to the participants in the present study were demographic information form, Smartphone Addiction Scale, Bedtime Procrastination Scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The analyses provided support for the serial mediation model. Mindfulness predicted lower levels of smartphone addiction, which in turn predicted lower levels of bedtime procrastination and subsequently better sleep quality. The findings were presented in the concluding part, along with limitations, recommendations for future research, and clinical implications. In conclusion, the findings of the present study support the role of mindfulness on smartphone addiction and bedtime procrastination in relationship with sleep quality.
