Abstract (EN)

In his work "Distinction", French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu explained how all kinds of symbolic distinction practices, from daily food and clothing preferences to subtle aesthetic taste indicators, embody a basic logic of inclusion and exclusion. Our daily preferences can be thought of as being organized around basic conceptual classifications such as high/low, similar/different, important/unimportant. These basic conceptual classifications are also social classifications that determine the ranks of individuals and groups in the stratification order. Therefore, class struggle as a class struggle includes our various practical uses of these basic conceptual classifications. The musical tastes preferred by individuals are a reflection of the classification policy they demonstrate on a social scale. Arabesque music, classical music and popular music represent the hierarchical status of class-specific tastes, most frequently encountered in the modern and postmodern world. In particular, socio-cultural, ideological, economic and political reasons in society are also a part of this change. Indeed, artists who have produced works in the field of arabesque music have gained important roles in society due to this change and perception of taste in arabesque music. Therefore, it is possible to say that the periodic change of arabesque music has a transforming effect on both performers and listeners. It is thought that explaining this transformation with the changing perception of taste in society will contribute to arabesque music and the field. In this context, the study sought to answer the question of which class position the listeners have in relation to arabesque music and what the changes in hierarchical positioning have been in the context of Milliyet Art Magazine. In this context, it was seen that those who perform and listen to arabesque music were initially associated with the subculture, but with the paradigm shift, the place of arabesque music in the hierarchy of taste changed. Arabesque music, which has also become an element of popular culture with the effect of paradigm shifts, has gained an eclectic form by interacting with other genres.
