Abstract (EN)
The climate crisis has become one of the most significant problems nowadays, creating huge risks for humanity. The Arctic Region is one of the regions that will be affected by climate crisis. The aim of this study is to examine the Arctic Region within the context of international security, with environmental, energy, economy, political and military issues through theoretical discussions. For this purpose, first of all, the development of the concept of security is examined under the title of "International Security Theories" and then various activities in the region are emphasized.Secondly, the geographical definition of the region is made under the title of "Arctic Region", the strategic importance of the region is discussed and the disputes of the regional states are examined. Finally, under the heading of "Arctic Region in the Framework of International Security", the security policies of the regional states, non-regional states and international organizations in the region are addressed. Then, regional security is examined through international security theories such as Neorealism, Neoliberalism, Kopanhag and Aberystwyth School. In this context, this study is based on the hypothesis that while the Arctic Region constitutes an element of competition for the relevant states on the one hand, with its potential immense resources, it also creates an environment of insecurity in the international system, both regionally and globally. The following questions are included to confirm the hypothesis: What resources does the region have and what kind of insecurity does it create? What are regional and global risks and threats? Who are the actors affected by these risks and threats? What kind of an environment of peace can be achieved in the Arctic Region based on international security theories?
