Abstract (EN)

This study seeks to investigate whether interlingual and intercultural differences are paid regard within journalistic translations and in what forms these types of discrepancies occur and affect the product as an output. In this context, journalistic translations from English into Turkish were taken into consideration and data obtained were analysed in terms of interlingual and intercultural translation and interaction.Thirty two (32) news texts and their translations were examined from BBC (20) Euronews (8) and Sputnik News (4) between 2016 and 2018. Texts were collected from the sections ofsport, health, culture and art, science and technology, politics and life and travel. Christiane Nord's(2006) The Four-Function Model, among which are referential, expressive, appellative and phatic function, was applied to these objects of analysis. In the light of findings, it was observed that in relation to all types of texts examined, referential and phatic functions were often performed with proper strategies by the translator, yet expressive and appellative functions were not fulfilled in full. It was determined that lingusitic differences between English and Turkish and geographical distance of the two countries as well as culturel-specific language usages and universal language usages are among the main factors of linguistic and cultural differences. İn addition, it was determined that Turkish translations of news texts are presented through various adaptations and that many points are omitted in the target texts. Among these adaptations are omission, addition, praraphrasing and rearrangement. Considering that journalistic translations have been studied since 2000s all over the World within the framework of Translation Studies, a new field of sicience, it was observed that there is scant research in the field of journalistic translation in Turkey and thus it is suggested that more research be done.
