Determination of natural resistance of some wood type in different geographical regions by field tests

Abstract (EN)

In this study, scots pine, spruce, beech, alder and chestnut sapwood/heartwood samples and CCB impregnated sapwood samples were exposed to the field test in accordance with the European standard EN 252 for 3 years in the provinces of Trabzon, Muğla, Çanakkale and Elazığ to determine natural durability of wood types. The visual decay rate, weight loss, density, bending strength and elasticity modulus, compression strength parallel to the grain, color changes, climate index values and soil structure were determined per year. The province with the highest climate index was Trabzon, and the province with the lowest was Muğla. TWHC of the soil was mostly found in Çanakkale and Trabzon, and the lowest in Muğla. The lowest visual decay rate, the lowest weight loss, the highest density, the highest bending strength and elastic modulus, the highest compression strength values were observed in Elazığ. In Çanakkale, Muğla and Trabzon, values that are more negative were seen. In terms of climate type, it can be said that scotch pine, spruce and chestnut wood samples have higher resistance than the beech and alder samples. Especially the heartwood of coniferous has been found to be more durable than the sapwood. In addition, no deformation was observed in any of the impregnated wood samples. All of the impregnated wood samples showed very good durability. Çanakkale was the place where the highest color change occurred. The type of wood with the most color change was the scots pine wood.
