Effects of certain factors and inbreeding on different body measurement treats of yerli kara cattles

In this study it was aimed to determine the effects of some enviromental factors and inbreeding on different body measurement treats of 143 Yerli Kara cattles maintained at Lalahan Livestock Central Research Institute.Inbreeding coefficienty was found to be 0,0133. Mean live weight, shin girth, chest girth, body lenght and height at withers were 17,274±0,780 kg., 9,556±0,164 cm., 59,428±1,006 cm., 53,903±1,024 cm and 54,707±0,895 cm. at birth 68,665±3,718 kg., 11,841±0,290 cm., 92,102±2,339 cm., 80,854±1,688 cm. and 75,749±1,372 cm. at three months, 112,164±5,818 kg., 14,775±0,473 cm., 112,780±2,900 cm., 95,881±1,931 cm. and 87,345±1,873 cm. at six months, 184,242±9,377 kg., 16,835±0,562 cm., 130,276±3,782 cm., 112,365±3,465 cm. and 99,924±1,873 cm. at twelve months respectively.Analysis of variance showed that the effect of birth year was significiant (P<0,05) for birth weight and shin girth at birth, chest girth and body lenght at three months, only live weight at twelve months. The effects of birth season were significiant (P<0,05) for birth weight at birth and chest girth at twelve months. The parity of dam were significiant (P<0,05) for birth weight shin girth and height at withers at birth, live weight and shin girth at three months, shin and chest girths at six months and live weight shin and chest girths at twelve months. It was determined that sex affect the birth weight and shine girth for newborns and shine girth for six months . The affects of inbreeding were significiant (P<0,05) for shin and chest girths at three months, only shin girth at six months and live weight, shin and chest girths at twelve months.As a result, it was concluded that the birth year and season, party of dam and inbreeding must be considered in a selection programme intended for body measurements.Keywords: Yerli Kara, body measurements, inbreeding.
