Abstract (EN)
Reinforced concrete structures, which constitute a large portion of the existing urban building stock, fail to demonstrate adequate seismic performance for various reasons. By making decisions as quickly as possible to strengthen or demolish structures lacking sufficient seismic performance, structural damage can be minimized in a potential earthquake. The structural damage caused by the Kahramanmaraş earthquake of February 6, 2023, which has been described as the disaster of the century for Türkiye, and the resulting large-scale loss of life, have once again highlighted the seismic performance of existing structures and the importance of future work on these structures. In this study, numerical analyses were conducted on a reinforced concrete structure model created as a sample. These analyses considered a reference structure model without reinforcement, a structure model reinforced with fibre polymer wrapping, and a structure model strengthened with reinforced-concrete wrapping. The results obtained for the three building models were compared. The study provides information on repair and strengthening methods, and the structural costs of the proposed reinforcement types are compared.
