Abstract (EN)

The structure that is detected to be insufficient in its seismic performance, in case of being economical, should be strengthened with appropriate techniques. Adding seismic RC shear wall to carrying system in order to improve the behavior of buildings is a method of system recovery. Due to their stiffness the shear walls significantly affect the behavior of the structural system. Effective working of the shear walls which are under effect of an earthquake depends on how they are placed in a floor plan. In this thesis, it is tried to examine the basic design principles of the position of RC shear walls which will be added to the buildings which seismic performance?s will be observed as inadequate during any system enforcement study. 12 statuses of a reinforced concrete building are analyzed with/without shear walls and is examined the change in behavior of a building by using Probina Orion computer program in accordance with Turkish Earthquake Code 2007 according to life safety performance level. According to the results it is tried to establish the appropriate shear wall conditions for the example structure.KEYWORDS: seismic performances of buildings, reinforced concrete shear walls, strengthening, linear elastic analysis, Turkish Earthquake Code
