Abstract (EN)

Fire in Reinforced Concrete Structures and Investigation of Fire Design on a Model It is known that reinforced concrete structures like other structures are exposed to the fires and become out of service which may cause life and property losses. However, in most of the countries in the world like Turkey, there is not got a code to take into account the fire effect and to design the reinforced concrete structures to the these effect. Additionally there is not got enough source to provide realizing this aim. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the load capacities of some reinforced concrete structural element sections under fire conditions, the temperature distributions of reinforced concrete sections with various methods and to obtain the real temperature-time curve on a selected model by making use of some references about the fire on structures, fire safety, fire severity and resistance, determination of temperature distributions in reinforcing concrete sections and design of reinforced concrete structures under the fire. With this purpose, as a first step of chapter one fire safety of structures, fire and heat, fire severity and resistance are mentioned. This chapter is followed by some instructions about structural design under fire conditions, variation of the properties of concrete and reinforcing bar with high temperature, determination of temperature distributions of reinforced concrete sections and fire design of reinforced concrete structures with the simplified method given in Eurocode. In chapter two, with the use of this synthesis work, the real temperature-time curve of a chosen reinforced concrete structural model and the temperature distributions of its sections as well as the load capacities of its elements under the fire are determined by using the modified computer codes. Conclusions drawn from this study and recommendations are summarised in chapter three, and this chapter is followed by the list of references and appendix which is related to modified computer codes. Result drawn from this study imply that when the fire effects are not taken into account, the safety of this structures according to ultimate limit state can not be satisfied especially in long term fires.KeyWords: Synthesis work, Reinforced concrete, Temperature distributions, Design according to fire, Load capacity under fire conditions.
