Language review of Ma-Hazar as a 19th century text: Spellingfeatures of phonetics and morphology study-text

This study focuses on Ma-hazar which was compiled by Ebubekir Nusret in the 18th Century and is registered under number MHK 5332 in Manisa Public Library. This edition is the one which was copied by Abdulkadir El-Besim in the 19th Century.Ma-hazar means everything on guard. The content of the book includes medical sciences, pharmacology, treatments of diseases, medicine recipes and medicine use. The author in his book describes the cases of patients benefiting from his advice and treatment.Apart from the medicine recipes listed in the book, there are also prints known as Mascot and within these Mascot are Vefk which are a coligraphic style of diagram. Also within these prints are extracts and full verses from the Quran, Arabic letters and Arabic numbers.The language of the book is very basic except for medical terms, Arabic and Farisi words.In this study Ma-hazar has been translated from Ottoman Turkish into Modern day Turkish and its orthography, morphology, phonetics have been analysed.The main purpose of this study is to uncover the text which was written in the field of treatment in the 19th century and to show the properties of 19th century Ottoman Turkish.
