Determining the awareness of the risks in a workplace for the employees in a public institution

Abstract (EN)

The study was conducted among the workers who did academic, administrative and Office Works at a university in 2018. A sample group was not selected for the study but it was completed with 510 people who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. The data were collected through a socio-demographic data form and a 58-question questionaire prepared by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security using the Risk Assessment Guide in the Offices.The institution permission of the study was taken from Yozgat Bozok University Rectorship and Ethics Committee approval was taken from Yozgat Bozok University Clinical Research Ethics Committee. Descriptive tables of the data were made and the data was analyzed by using the square-t, t-test and logistic regression analysis. 59,0% of the office workers participating in the research were male, 58,8% were married and 52,0% were in the age of 30-39. 17,5% of the employees have highschool-associate degree and 37,6% of them have doctorate degree.35.5% of the participants work for 6 hours or less, 11% of them work for 9 hours or longer in the office.69.8% of the employees stated that they took occupational health and safety training, and 54.5% stated that the work or workplace could affect their health negatively.63% of the answers to the questions related to occupational health and safety precautions are in general, 47.1% are related to electricity, 60% are related to fire, 50.5% are ergonomic, 51% are about psycho-social and totally 56% of them stated that there are occupational health and safety precautions.The possibility of stating the existence of occupational health and safety precautions is higher among those with administrative duties, those with occupational health and safety training, those with higher education levels and those who have shorter office hours. In general, the presence of occupational safety precautions in workplaces was recognized by half of the employees, but not more than a quarter. The effective regulation of occupational safety training programs for the needs of employees will improve the employees' health by increasing the awareness of occupational health and safety.
