Exergo-environmental analysis of an experimental turboprop aircraft engine under different loads

Abstract (EN)

Exergo-environmental analysis is a suitable tool for evaluating environmental performance of energy conversion systems and it is firstly performed to aircraft engines. Exergo-environmental analysis identifies and quantifies locations, magnitudes and sources of environmental impacts through exergy destruction rates of each engine component. In this study, exergo-environmental analysis is performed to an aircraft turboprop engine for torque values of 240 Nm, 350 Nm, 485 Nm, 552 Nm, 580 Nm and 630 Nm, respectively. Engine data is mainly obtained from engine tests, remains are calculated parametrically. Results are showed that the biggest environmental impact value of exergy destruction for all torques is found for combustion chamber where chemical reaction occurs. Furthermore, total component related environmental impacts are found as 6,14 Pts/h, 2,44 Pts/h, 6,42 Pts/h and 3,11 Pts/h for compressor, combustion chamber, gas generator turbine and power turbine, respectively.
