Abstract (EN)

The United Kingdom, whose relations with the European Union began in 1973, has always had problems during its membership. The United Kingdom, which has been the most distant form the European integration from the very beginning, has become a desired article for the United Kingdom, with the Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, that any country that wants to leave the membership "can leave the union within the framework of its own constitutional rights". With this article, it wanted to leave the union for reasons such as the recent crises, the immigration problem, European skepticism and sovereignty concerns. İn the referendum held on June 23, 2016, the predominance of the pro-exit party led to the start of the processcalled Brexit. With the United Kingdom's referendum in 2016, it was the first time that a member left the union. Negotiations started in 2017 and the UK officially left the union on 31 January 2020. What happened in this process, the possible impact of what it will cause for the United Kingdom and the European Union are emphasized.
