Tourism cluster in terms of regional development: The case of Burhaniye olive oil tourism cluster

Tourism activities have maximum value in terms of development within the country and region. Technology developing with the industrial revolution has alienated people from natural life and confined them to city life. This situation has led to the inclusion of agricultural activities within tourism activities. There are many regions throughout Türkiye that are very active in terms of tourism. Apart from the classical understanding of tourism, strategies have been developed to enable regions to assert themselves on the competitive market. At the forefront of these strategies is the concept of clustering, which provides great benefits to regional and national competitiveness. Semi-structured interview technique has been applied in the research. The data includes participant opinions and researcher observations. Within the scope of the study, a total of 24 stakeholders including central government, local government, private sector, NGOs and local people have been interviewed. Descriptive analysis and content analysis techniques have been applied to analyze the data. In this study, the structures of institutions and organizations necessary for regional development in the world and in Turkey have been examined. Cases of clusters formed in different sectors have been discussed. Based on research findings, observations and literature review, The Case of Burhaniye Olive Oil Tourism Cluster has been created, which will contribute to the regional development of Burhaniye.
