Determining strategy in construction sector by fuzzy logic

Abstract (EN)

Construction sector has a major importance in the country?s economics and development yet uncertainty and risk are frequently encountered in it. In this work, by using fuzzy logic method, the success of which on states of uncertainty is proven in literature on different subjects, a new technique is used for determining strategy in civil engineering. With this technique company managers are provided with facility and convenience on decision making. A questionnaire was performed with some member construction companies of The Turkish Employers? Association of Construction Industries and The Turkish Contractors Association for the aim of the work. In the theoretical information and literature survey section; the concept of strategy, strategic management and process, the compliance between construction industry and strategic management are explained. The material and method section clarifies the objectives of the study and the method. The information about the questionnaire performed during the study, techniques used for evaluating the questionnaire and statistical analysis are discussed in this section. In the findings section, overall situations of participating companies are evaluated. Considering the companies? answers to the questions, parameter ranges and rule base for Fuzzytech program were created. Afterwards, the validity of parameter ranges and the generated rule base were checked by entering the questionnaire results to the program. Discussion and result section reviews the questionnaire results and program outputs. It includes some suggestions for the new companies in the construction sector and the companies which are unaware of strategy for being successful in the sector.
