Comparison of bourgeois type European capitalism and akhi type Ottoman system

Akhism is known as a craftsman association model combining morality and art which has existed for centuries in Anatolia. This association model, which hosts trade-related ethical principles and conditions such as economic solidarity, competition understanding, quality-control as well as the requirements of social life such as unity, solidarity and living in peace, can be seen as a multi-directional formation both in terms of belief and structuring. This system, which is also known as a craftsman association model where morality and quality are united, embodied many factors that kept the society at the level of development throughout the period it existed in. The capitalist system, on the other hand, is based on the idea of maximizing the accumulation of capital and profit which individuals have determined as the main objective. Capitalism, which is based primarily on individualism, private property, competition, free market and limited state intervention, is also known as a private enterprise system. In the capitalist thought, which contains accumulated wealth intrinsically, the continuous growth of capital is targeted. In this study, it was aimed to make a comparison between the bourgeois-type European capitalism and Akhi-type Ottoman system. In order to ensure the integrity of the subject in the study, the two systems were discussed inherently and subjected to examination. A comparison was made by considering the basic points that emerged as a result of the examination. In accordance with the aim of the study, literature review and screening method were preferred. As a result of the study, it was seen that there were important differences between bourgeois-type European capitalism and Akhi-type Ottoman system in terms of basic points such as personal interests, social welfare, state intervention, functioning of the market mechanism and competition understanding.
