Abstract (EN)

This thesis is a study that deals with the new atheism and one of its leading representatives, Sam Harris. I tried to deal with its formation, which developed especially after Seeptember 11, 2001, from its place in atheist tendencies to its conceptual aspect. The new atheism expresses the hostility of religion in a broad sense in the West, and the hostility of Islam in particular. The new atheists claim that religion and science are absolutely incompatible. They even find it inconsistent for a believer to become a medical doctor. In this context I examined the new atheists in the world and Turkey, from a philosophical point of view. In addition, I included their struggles with religion, their efforts to spread scientism, secular and atheistic life style in society along with their institutional activities. I focused on Sam Harris, one of the famous Four Horsemen of New Atheism, on his works, methods, and criticism and suggestions that can be evaluated from a philosophical point of view. I discussed Sam Harris's views on morality and spirituality towards the new atheists' strictly rational, disregarding and unrealistic approaches to the spiritual needs of society. Finally, I have also included the criticisms of the opposing atheists and theists towards the new atheism.
