Examination of employees' emphatic tendency levels and organizational climate based on various demographic variables: Example of Mediterranean Exporters' Association members

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between emphatic tendencies and organizational climate while determine if they show significant difference based on various socio-demographic factors such as gender, age, educational level, seniority in the firm, monthly income and the department they work in the firm. Data were collected on 175 employees of Mediterranean Exporters' Association member companies on an online platform. Demographic Information Form created by the researcher, Empathic Tendecy Scale developed by Dökmen and Organizational Climate Scale developed by Litwin and Stringer, translated to Turkish by Tunçay were used to collect data. While evaluating the findings of the study, descriptive statistical methods were used. When comparing quantitative data to find the differences between groups; in the case of two groups, the independent samples t test was used, the one-way ANOVA analysis used for examine the differences between more than two groups, and the Tukey test used to determine the group that caused the difference. The normality distribution of data were examined with skewness-kurtosis values. There is a correlation between organizational climate and empathic tendency, and this relationship is positive and low-level. It has been determined that the participants perception of organizational climate do not differ according to their gender, age, education level and department but differ with income status and seniority in the firm. Also, their empathic tendency levels significantly differ according to their income status.
