Abstract (EN)
Turkish customs, manners and traditions, which have reached the present day by developing continuous accumulation from the past and continue to exist in social life, also change over time. In this thesis study, music practices in the center of social life in Çankırı and music practices within the culture were examined. The aim of the study is to determine the musical elements in Çankırı culture from the past to the present, and also the changes and deficiencies. Weddings, yâran gatherings, excursions, and fairs as the most prominent areas where music has been kept alive are the main subjects of this study, as well as the other musical elements in city life. In order to understand the change experienced, the historical origins of these practices and their performance areas in Çankırı were explored. The information obtained through literature review, observations, field research, participation as a performer and personal interviews were supported by relevant visuals and included in the thesis. In addition, the current status and performance areas of the folk songs belonging to Çankırı music culture, notated or given as only lyrics in the sources were identified and presented as a table. It has been concluded that Çankırı has had a very rich musical memory from the past to the present, and that many developments and changes have taken place within the culture.
