Abstract (EN)
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an important opportunistic pathogen that causes nosocomial infections in the debilitated host. The incidence of S. maltophilia infections has been increasing steadily in recent years. Risk factors associated with S. maltophilia infection include use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, prolonged hospitalization, mechanical ventilation and presence of central venous line. Treatment of these infections is difficult because of the multiple antibiotic resistance. Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole is the drug of choice for treating S. maltophilia infection; however, resistance to TMP/SMX is increasing.In this study we investigated the sensitivity of S. maltophilia strains to chemical disinfectans and antiseptic solutions. Bacterial strains were obtained from the patients at Gazi University Hospital. We used the Europen Standart, prEN 13727-2009 to determine the bactericidal activities of the Cleanisept and Savonol to the S. maltophilia strains. In this test method the product shall demonstrate at least a 5 decimal log reduction.We found that 50 Stenotrophomonas strains used in this study were sensitive to recommended concentration of Cleanisept and Savonol.
