Determining the opinions of science teachers on multiple intelligence theory and its applications

The aim of the study is to determine the views of science teachers on the theory of multiple intelligences and its applications. The sample of the research consists of science and related field (biology, physics and chemistry) teachers. The case study desing was adopted to determine the teachers' views on multiple intelligences. The case study is used for studies in which both quantitative and quantitative research approaches are adopted. In the quantative aspect of the study, teachers' views on the theory and practices of multiple intelligences were tried to be determined through a questionnaire. In the qualitative part, an interview form was applied to the participants, who would consist of one-tenth of the teachers who were surveyed. Thus, thee obtained from the questionnaire form were analyzed with the SPSS program. The results of the analysis were presented in tables and the findings were reached. In general, when the findings were examined, it was seen that the teachers had a wide theoretical knowledge about the theory of multiple intelligences and intelligence areas. However, it has been revealed that teachers need help in including teaching practices designed for different intelligence areas of students in their lessons. It is seen that science teachers are willing to receive training to apply the theory of multiple intelligences in lessons. As a result, it has been revealed that although science teachers have sufficient theoretical knowledge about the thoery of multiple intelligences, they do not include it in the teaching process. It is suggested that the necessary infrastructure should be provided fort he use of multiple intelligence theory applications, which can make significant contributions to science teaching and successful examples should be presented in teaching with multiple intelligences.
