Abstract (EN)
A number of multi-variate PDE (Probability Density Estimator)methodsare compared for the discrimination of signal from background in the selection ofneutral pion candidates reconstructed at the ALEPH experiment at CERN. Inthis case-study, the question ?which method is the best choice?? reveals that theanswer depends strongly on the size of the data set used to train and optimisethe method, and the required simplicity of the algorithm.
