Effects on admissions of limitations and practices during COVİD-19 pandemic

Abstract (EN)

Introduction: The aim of this study is to evaluate whether emergency service admissions are affected especially for acute coronary syndrome, ischemic stroke and terminal stage shock, together with the changes made since the first date of the Covid-19 Pandemic in our country. Material and Method: In this homocentric retrospective case-control study, the admissions to Gazi University Health Research and Application Center Emergency Service between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2020, and the previous year's admissions were both examined. The admissions of all three diseases were compared with both the previous year and the pre-pandemic period. Also, the subgroups of the three diseases and the days of stay in the emergency service of patients with stroke and shock were compared. Results: In 2020, applications to the emergency service generally decreased by 35% compared to the previous year. In the early stages of the pandemic (March, April, May 2020), applications decreased both in general terms and for the three diseases examined, both compared to the previous year, and both compared to the pre-pandemic period. The duration of stay in the emergency service was decreased for ischemic stroke and shock. Conclusions: Implementations for the pandemic and Covid-19 itself have reduced the load of emergency service of non-Covid-19 diseases both in terms of application and duration of stay. Pandemic hospitals management and country management should evaluate the implementations made in the past, develop more beneficial implementations, and plans, aim to defeat this disease with the least damage.
