Abstract (EN)

The social change movement, which started in the 19th century and continued after the proclamation of the Republic, was seen as a necessity. In the 19th century, solutions to problems were sought by making changes in state institutions. With the establishment of modern Türkiye, the main goal was to reach the level of contemporary civilizations, and efforts to achieve this goal began to show themselves in every area of society. The main change parameter of the Republican period was the way of thinking and the view of social life began to be questioned again. With the Cold War period that started after World War II, Türkiye completely turned its direction towards the west. This decision brought with it the Western lifestyle. The new lifestyle that emerged was also supported by the media. Resimli Hayat, Hafta ve Yirminci Asır magazines, which form the basis of our study, are important in this respect. It is stated that these magazines, which were active in the 1950s, influenced Turkish social life in line with the western lifestyle. The establishment of American-style life in Turkish society in the 1950s brought along cultural problems. The modernization-centered Westernization movement after the proclamation of the Republic turned into Americanization disguised as Westernization in the 1950s. The introduction of the American lifestyle into Turkish society was painful and has led to various reactions in Turkish society. Popular culture has surrounded every aspect of Turkish society and Türkiye has become one of the victims of the uniformization that comes with globalization.
