Abstract (EN)

Although it has been stated in the Turkish Earthquake Code (TEC, 2007), hardly ever clearance has been left between the adjacent buildings due to the reasons such as unplanned urbanization, that the proprietary do not want to make concessions to boundary lines or regarding the structure detached during the designation. Thus it becomes unavoidable for unplanned urbanization. The seismic performance of the buildings is heavily affected by the characteristics and intensity of the ground motion. In the course of an earthquake on a region, the ground motion recorded near the existing fault line on the region is far different from the ground motion saved farther from that fault line. Hence, in determining the seismic performance of the structures, the necessity for considering the ground motions of near-fault and far fault occur. In the TEC (2007), the amount of space should be left between the buildings does not change according to the earthquake zones. Moreover, the effects of the near and far fault ground motions on the buildings are not taken into consideration. However, seismic loads acting on the structures in the TEC (2007) vary according to the earthquake zones. This current state raises the idea that the amount of space between buildings to be built in the different earthquake zones should be different. For this reason, the purpose of this research project is to study the collision behavior of buildings considering near and far fault ground motions and the changing of the amount of space between buildings according to the seismic zones.
