Abstract (EN)

The aim of the paper is to conduct an investigation on pounding involved response of two buildings with equal story height and different dynamic properties (story mass, structural stiffness). Buildings are modeled as three dimensional flat-plate building and the gap size between them has been set according to The Turkish Earthquake Codes (2007). The model of impact is simulated as contact force based Linear Elastic Spring Model, Linear Viscoelastic Spring (Kelvin-Voigt) Model, Nonlinear Spring (Hertz) Model and Nonlinear Elastic Spring with Linear Viscoelastic Spring Model. İt is searched that with using gap elements, on which time step pounding occurs and what the largeness of pounding force is. Response analysis results are compared with no pounding case for each building. A program has been used named SAP2000 to run the nonlinear time history analysis including the method of mod superposition. This thesis consists of five chapters. In the first chapter, a literature survey associated with past severe pounding damages and pounding models used in this thesis is given in detail. This chapter includes also nonlinear equation of motion which is relevant with time history. In the second chapter, structural properties, which are used for each pounding model, are defined. Third chapter contains the findings obtained from the nonlinear dynamic analyses. The conclusions and recommendations deduced from the analyses are given in chapter four. Finally, the references are presented in the fifth chapter.
