Abstract (EN)

The Compilation Dictionary is a comprehensive dictionary that reveals the diversity of Turkish dialects in Turkey, providing a rich resource in terms of the vocabulary it encompasses. In this study, the Dictionary has been evaluated based on idiomatic expressions. Idiomatic expressions, which offer an effective means of expression with their readily available formulations in the mind, are structures with unique qualities. In line with the opinions on structures marked as idiomatic expressions in the literature, idiomatic expressions were identified by scanning the 2009 edition 6-volume Compilation Dictionary. The study includes an examination of how the concept of idioms is addressed in the literature, researchers' approaches to the subject, and an assessment of primary sources. The study, which is based on the identification and classification of idioms in the Compilation Dictionary, also aims to present them in an accessible manner by visualizing them on a map. For this purpose, starting with the meanings of 5163 idioms identified from the Compilation Dictionary, they were subjected to a thematic classification consisting of 10 main categories and 172 subcategories. Idioms within each theme were grouped together, synonymous and polysemous idioms were also presented in table form, and idioms with pronunciation differences in the context of synonymy were also indicated. Additionally, the idioms and their associated information, transferred to a MYSQL database, have been made searchable interactively on a map of Turkey through a website developed with PHP, allowing users to search for synonymous, polysemous, and thematic idioms.
