Evaluation of Power Point presentations used in the lessons according to graphic design elements and principles

Using different and variable technologies to meet needs has become an indispensable part of the life. The products prepared based on graphic design show their effect on various fields from education to health, from commerce to tourism, from communication to culture. Preparation and presentation of the power point presentations used in learning environment is an important subject for the graphic design. An educator using the elements and principles of graphic design will have the opportunity of analyzing presentations better, along with expressing his/her emotions and thoughts better. Each design consists of specific elements and principles. Design elements are called as line, texture, color, hue, value, form, shape, space, typography, design principles are called as rhythm, balance, emphasis, contrast, harmony, proportion, unity and diversity.The aims of this study are to analyze the graphic design elements used in the lessons according to opinions of instructors who conduct the lessons and students who take the lessons and to offer suggestions based on the results of these analysis. The research is designed in scanning model and quantitative and qualitative methods are used together in the research. Students population consists of 413 students and instructors population consists of 15 students. Chi Square (x²) test was used as analyze method.Most of the instructors indicate that they use the presentations in their lessons and they need training for that. Face to face or by using communication technologies via on line in service training programs which contain graphic design elements and principles for instructors and students and preparing CD's for this purpose are suggested.Key words: Graphic Design, Elements of Graphic Design, Principles of Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Preparing Presentation
