Abstract (EN)

This thesis focuses on the design of microstrip patch antenna for WIMAX applications. WIMAX technology is one of the most technologies needed in the field of telecommunication due to its unique characteristics such as wide bandwidth, large bit rate with high speed and distance range. The microstrip antenna is the most suitable antenna for this applications. In this work the design of conventional microstrip patch antennas and antennas with metamaterial unit cells are presented. A computer full wave electromagnetic simulator is used for modelling and simulating the patch antennas. The transmission line technique was used to obtain the approximate dimension of the design. The performances of both antennas were observed through the computer full wave electromagnetic simulator program. The simulation and measured result confirm that when incorporated with metamaterial structure help to miniaturize the size of antenna and improve its bandwidth. Hence the proposed antennas are well suited for WIMAX applications.
