Abstract (EN)
This thesis is based on the idea that the visibility of religious icons mostly represented by head-scarfed woman representations and the form of this representations has changed in recent years. It is the starting point of the general discussion of the thesis that the dominant, traditional, religious or national discourses that their subject is man, make women an ideological symbol. This can also be interpreted as a form of patriarchy's founding and spreading its own image of woman. This study claims that in the core of all patriarchal discourses, from the most secular ones to the most religious ones, lies an image imposed on woman. These are social positions devoted to woman as vii much as the roles assigned to her. For patriarchy, these roles and positions are closed to all kinds of discussions. The study mainly focuses on how to implement this imposition through the head-scarfed/non-head-scarfed duality. For example, while an ideal image can be imposed on women, it can be argued that this is the most correct and more emancipatory for them, but the limits of this freedom are undoubtedly drawn by the patriarchy. The thesis also aims to observe how the changing economic conditions and social life affects the image of head-scarfed women both in public and private spheres. In order to follow these effects and transformations, "Diğer Yarım" series on television was used as a syllabus and this transformation was tried to be understood/explained through this series. Images of womanhood which are injected to everyday life as "common good" are compared with the representations in the series. The media and sociology literature were used in the interpretation of the series, and the perspective of women's rights and freedoms is the departure point for interpretation, comparison and criticism. These assumptions will be reinforced with concrete examples from the "Diğer Yarım" series
