Abstract (EN)

World's demand for electricity is increasing day by day. Until recent years, electricity was mostly obtained by fossil fuels like oil, coal etc. After decrasing amount of fossil fuels in the earth and realising harmful effect of their gases to atmosphere during energy transformation , it was started searching of new energy sources. For wind energy , higher wind velocities is needed for better efficiency. For horizontal wind turbines, it is required higher altitutes for better start up of the turbine rotor. Furthermore bigger blade diameter is required which makes cost increase. Better alternative may be a turbine which can work in lower altitutes, having lower cost and turning in lower wind speeds. These outputs can be obtained by using vertical wind turbines. In this project, it was done a street lamp combined with wind turbine as an example. It is simulated in Simulink Matlab also. Considering that the electricty consumption for street lighting is 2% of the total electricity consumption in Turkey, street lamps with working vertical axis wind turbine can contribute to the national economy. A research in wind turbines will open the door to new inventions in reneawable energy studies.
