Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this study, where the National Vision movement (Milli Görüş Hareketi-MGH) is taken into consideration according to the context of relation between religion and politics; is to determine the role of the emerging MGH's function in providing a mentality and setting the world-view and life styles for its members with its thoughts and practices. This work has three basic limitations concerning place, time and subject. MGH has taken into account not by all its dimensions but only with its connection to religion and politics through a sociological perspective. As the matter of time, the work ended at the second half of the 2001 where the split between the Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi-SP) and the Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi-Ak Parti) occurred while further period has been left for another study. In the matter of place, even though, primarily in Europe, MGH has organisations and operations in many countries; it has been evaluated solely for its operations in Turkey. As this research has been executed from an interpretivist (idealist) social science paradigm; the fundamental research pattern this work has embraced, according to philosophy, is a descriptive research pattern in regard to its research purpose. This work also embraced qualitative research pattern in regard to its method and scientific historical research pattern among other qualitative research patterns. Where the collection of data of this research consists from technical observations, unstructured interview and the examination of written documents and records; descriptive analysis has mainly been used as a data analysis technique. It has been presented as a result of this research; that MGH has been emerged as a result of providing a sui generis mentality and world-view to the followers of religion; that the politics of MGH has been determined and guided by the Followers of Sunnah politics and that the MGH had been benefitted from the Ottoman political experience. Keywords: Religion, Politics, Pan-Islamism, Turkish Political Life, Necmettin Erbakan, Milli Görüş Hareketi.
