Abstract (EN)
Aim: This research has been carried out to find out the opinions of last year students at healt vocational high schools, about the Competencies of Midwives in The Ministry of Health and the Internatıonal Council of Midwives.Methodology: The research consists of 1049 last year midwife students from 28 different healt vocational highschools.The first part of data-gathering is made up of 15 items related to ICM competency domains and in the second part 15 itemed forms from the Ministry of Healt have been used .The SPSS 15,0 programmme has been used to evaluate the datum and numbers and percentages have been used to assess.Findings: Out of the research,ıt has been reached that ın the ICM competency domains that 'ın the ?Midwives provide comprehensive, high quality, culturally sensitive postnatal care for women? 'with the percentage of 93,9%. The least with 44,7% in the research has been found that ıt is necessary to provide high quality, culturally sensitive care during labour, conduct a clean and safe delivery, and handle selected emergency situations to maximize the health of women and their newborns at houses.According to findings of The Mınıstry of Healt-the duty definitions of midwives have been found the, with 99% percentage, ?recording of the newborns genders,heights, the surroundings around head and breast?. The least has been found, with 58,2% percentage, ?to evaluate the risky situations at births and the desicion to transfer?.When the regions are studied in the ICM domains,ıt has been seen ın the all regions that ın the ?Midwives provide comprehensive, high quality, culturally sensitive postnatal care for women?.The Mediterranean Region is the one with the most competency wıth 98.4 %.When we observe the students from The Southern Eastern Anotolia Region, the Eastern Region,The Central Anotolia Region, The Mediterranean Region and the Marmara Region, the domain students have found the least competant has been to provide culturally sensitive care during labour, conduct a clean and safe delivery, and handle selected emergency situations to maximize the health of women and their newborns at houses.When the definitions of midwives of the Ministry of Health have closely been studied in term of regions,the most competent domain has been to record the newborns' gender, height, surroundings of head and breast. with 99.2%, The Marmara Region has come the first.There have been suggestions to stenghten the education of midwives and their jobs as a result of the research.Key Words: Midwifery, Duty, Competency
