Rûhî-i Baghdâdî in the context of sociology of literature

Literature, a branch of the fine arts, aims to perform speaking, listening, and writing in an aesthetic manner. The primary purpose of literature is to reveal beauty; it brings an elegant order to speaking, writing, and listening. Sociology, on the other hand, is a field of science that examines social problems. Literary sociology is a discipline that addresses the social dimension of literature. Literature is not merely the solitary endeavor of a writer or poet; the artist is influenced by society and, in turn, influences society. The lifestyle, cultural, and linguistic characteristics of society impact the artist, while the artist shapes society through their writings. Literary sociology examines this reciprocal interaction. In this study, the Divan of Rûhî-i Bağdâdî is analyzed within the context of literary sociology. The study consists of two main sections. The first section broadly examines Bağdatlı Rûhî and literary sociology. After discussing the poet's life, literary thoughts, and the Divan, the conceptual aspects of literature, the relationship between literature and society, and literary sociology as a method of analysis are explored. The second section provides a detailed analysis of the Divan of Bağdatlı Rûhî in terms of the elements of literary sociology. This section addresses the sociological elements found in the Divan under the subheadings: "Inhabited Places," "Social Spaces Formed by Social Life," "Duties and Professions," "Customs, Beliefs, Rituals, and Practices," "Punishment Methods," "Entertainment Life and Festivals," "Social Criticism," "Fabrics and Clothing," "Music," "Food and Culinary Culture," "Economic Structure," "Sports and Games," "Health-related Elements," and "Everyday Objects."
