Effects of different doses of pediococcus acidilactici inoculation in oat silage in silage quality

This study was planned to determine the effects of different concentrations of Pediococcus acidilactici added to oat silage on fermentation, physical and chemical properties, feed value, aerobic stability and in vitro digestibility. The treatment groups in the study were oat silage control (OSC), 106 cfu/kg DM P. acidilactici inoculated oat silage (OSPA6), 108 cfu/kg DM P. acidilactici inoculated oat silage (OSPA8), 109 cfu/kg DM P. acidilactici inoculated oat silage (OSPA9). Silages were subjected to fermentation for 90 days. The P. acidilactici inoculation into oat silage increased the dry matter, crude protein and crude fat contents of the silages at the time of opening, and decreased the crude fiber and acid detergent insoluble fiber contents. Inoculation of P. acidilactici into oat silage decreased the pH value of the silages at the time of opening. Although the pH value decreased numerically as the P. acidilactici dose increased, no difference was determined between the inoculated groups. Inoculation of P. acidilactici did not affect the relative feed value and color parameter values of the silages. Inoculation of P. acidilactici into oat silage increased the lactic acid bacteria count of OSPA8 silage compared to the control silage but did not affect the other silages. Inoculation of P. acidilactici did not affect the yeast and mold content of oat silage at the time of opening. Inoculation of P. acidilactici decreased the pH value of oat silage after 5-day aerobic stability test after opening compared to the control silage. P. acidilactici inoculation did not affect the organic matter digestibility and metabolizable energy value of silages, but increased the net energy lactation content compared to the control. When all these data are evaluated together, it may be recommended to inoculate P. acidilactici into oat silage at a level of 1*108 cfu/kg DM.
