Abstract (EN)

The Internet has become an integral part of modern life, globally utilized around the world, delivering positive impacts to billions. This thesis focuses on enhancing the Internet's capacity to provide live services, aiming to sustain its positive influence. The evolution of computers and networks underscores the significance of interactive multimedia services. The quality of these services is pivotal for their widespread adoption and is determined by user perception. Optimal Quality of Service (QoS) isn't merely the highest but rather tailored to varying user needs. To ensure appropriate QoS levels, applications must understand relevant network parameters influencing perceived quality. The proliferation of Internet Protocol (IP) networks in smart homes, smartphones, vehicle multimedia systems, and IP televisions has led to an increased number of devices and applications connected to the Internet, intensifying bandwidth utilization. Consequently, optimizing bandwidth utilization and system performance has gained more prominence. This thesis endeavors to maximize the throughput performance by simulating a packet-switched TCP/IP network using Matlab simulation and optimizing the parameters related to system performance. It is shown that elevating the number of successfully delivered packets or reducing overall delivery time directly enhances the throughput of the performance. Numerous prior studies and modifications have tackled these issues, aiming for improved network quality. Solutions are explored through algorithmic alterations in network simulation. The results which are evaluated using the Mathis throughput formula, are compared with analogous literature studies and finally contrasted with the thesis simulation outcomes. The ultimate goal of this thesis is to identify the network parameter values yielding optimal performance under specific conditions and scrutinize their impact on throughput. The conducted studies facilitate a comparative analysis of parameters for their effects in order to attain the desired Internet speed levels.
