Abstract (EN)

The effects of Magnesium on blood pressure and hemorheology in nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibition hypertension model is well-known The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of oral magnesium therapy on high blood pressure and hemorheology in NOS inhibition hypertension model. The effects of oral Magnesium teraphy on new progressing hypertension were investigated in Control (K), Magnesium (M), Hypertension (H) and Hypertension+Magnesium (HM) groups. The observation on the effects in already developed hypertension was performed with Hypertension (H-12) and Hypertension+Magnesium (HM-12) groups. Hypertension was induced by addition of 25 mg/kg/day L-NAME into the drinking water and magnesium replacement was achieved by alimentation with %0.8 MgO including chow. The results of our experiments were; 1.Blood pressure after L-Name induction was higher in H group compared with K group throughout the experiment . Blood pressure was significantly reduced at 6th week in HM group. Blood pressure was decreased similarly at 12 week in HT-12 group compared with H-12 group 2.High plasma Magnesium concentrations were determined in the groups which were treated with oral Magnesium. Red blood cell magnesium content were lower in H group compered with C group and higher in HM group compared with H group. 3.Plasma viscosity and aggregation index were increased in H group compared with C group and decreased in HM group compared with H group. 4.MCV and Htc levels were higher in H group compared with K group. Mean Hct value was decreased in HM-12 group compared with H-12 group. 5.There were no differences between groups on behalf of other parameters In conclusion; oral Magnesium teraphy in NOS inhibition hypertension model revealed favorable effects on hypertension however it was effective on rheological properties in only already developed hypertension. Key words: Magnesium, Hypertension, Fibrinogen, Viscosity, Aggregation
