Abstract (EN)
The aim of the research is to reveal the work life experiences of disabled teachers working in public schools in Kastamonu and the opinions and attitudes of the administrators in the schools where they work towards these teachers. For this purpose, semi-structured interview forms were applied to 11 disabled teachers working in Kastamonu city center and 10 institutional administrators of the schools where they work. Findings reveal that teachers with disabilities generally have positive experiences regarding job descriptions, work environments, attitudes and accessibility. Flexible job descriptions, appropriate working environment and supportive attitudes are among the main factors affecting the job satisfaction and personal development of disabled teachers. In particular, the flexibilities and supports provided in the workplace increase the work efficiency and satisfaction of disabled individuals and encourage diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Although managers generally support the participation of disabled individuals in business life, some also argue that disabled individuals should be employed in appropriate positions according to their health conditions. Administrators state that the duties and responsibilities of disabled teachers should be determined within the framework of legal regulations and in accordance with their health conditions. Some administrators are of the opinion that the current duties of disabled teachers are not compatible with their health conditions and that they should work in more suitable administrative positions. It was stated that working with disabled teachers has difficulties such as unclear job descriptions and disruption of classes due to chronic diseases. It was stated that institutions made some arrangements regarding physical accessibility, but the arrangements for other disabled groups were insufficient. It has been observed that other employees generally display a tolerant and supportive attitude towards their disabled colleagues, and that the course schedules are arranged according to the needs of disabled teachers. Managers' views on equal treatment of disabled employees and other employees vary; While some argue that positive discrimination is necessary, others believe that equal treatment will increase efficiency. As a result, it was emphasized that disabled individuals should be equipped with appropriate conditions and employed in jobs appropriate to their potential. These findings guide the necessary regulations to remove the obstacles faced by disabled individuals in educational institutions and workplaces and to ensure their more effective participation in business life.
